Between October 2021 and March 2022, Tasmanians with disability, community groups, advocates, the broader community and other key stakeholders such as Government agencies and statutory authorities were invited to give feedback through a written submission or through targeted accessible consultation in response to the Review of the Disability Services Act 2011 Discussion Paper or the Review of the Disability Services Act 2011 Discussion Paper – Easy Read.
Community Consultation
In addition to the opportunity to provide written responses to the Discussion Paper, an independent consultant, Annie Curtis Consulting, assisted us in a Community Consultation with people with disability, family, carers, advocates, and disability providers to help ensure consultation for people with lived experience was accessible and inclusive.
Annie Curtis Consulting used a range of activities, including booths at disability expos, online open forums, in-person and online group focus sessions and in-person and online individual conversations. The Community Consultation Report summarises the outcomes of this consultation.

Review of State Based Authorisation Processes for the use of Restrictive Practices
The review of the Act has provided the opportunity to develop a contemporary restrictive practice authorising environment while aligning Tasmanian legislative requirements and definitions of restrictive practices with the NDIS.
An independent analysis of Tasmania’s authorisation processes for the use of restrictive practices has also been undertaken. The outcome of this work will inform Tasmania’s future disability legislation.
A consultation for the Government of Tasmania – Summary Report provides an outline of the methodology and recommendations. Communities Tasmania’s response to each of the recommendations is outlined in “A consultation for the Government of Tasmania Recommendations – Communities Tasmania Response”.
The Restrictive Practice Authorisation Pathway - What We Heard Closure Report provides a summary of the consultation that informed the development of a contemporary restrictive practice authorisation model as outlined in the Report.
