How We Consulted

This section gives information on how we conducted our consultations.

We involved people with disability in designing the consultation.

The consultation included people with disability, families, carers, providers of disability support, advocates and the wider Tasmanian community. We also consulted with stakeholders who are part of Government and independent statutory authorities.

The consultation process:

  • engaged and consulted with people with disability
  • respected that people with lived experience of disability are experts
  • included people with disability and other stakeholders in the design of the consultation
  • included feedback from people with lived experience of disability in the consultation
  • used consultation methods that addressed diversity and ensured equity in participation
  • was flexible in the approach used and adapted the design of the consultation to suit participants and to take account of social distancing requirements
  • monitored participation of different stakeholder groups to make sure no one who wanted to participate missed out
  • included people with disability in shaping the findings from the consultation.

We wrote a discussion paper to provide scope for the DSA Review. It provided information about what we wanted to find out.

Engagement activities included:

  • holding an information booth at two Disability Expos and an information session about the Review hosted by Speak Out
  • in-person sessions with groups of people through the organisations Speak Out and Association of Children with Disability Tasmania
  • state-wide online sessions held in January and February 2022
  • one-on-one consultations via phone, Zoom and in person.

Consultation participants included people with lived experience of disability, family members (including parents and grandparents), carers, support workers, service providers and other interested parties.

These were run by independent consultant, Annie Curtis Consulting, to help ensure consultation for people with lived experience was accessible and inclusive.

Written submissions were also invited in response to the Discussion Paper.

The consultation period has now closed.
