The Tasmanian Government is committed to providing Tasmanians with specialist recovery-based services for children, young people and adults affected by sexual and family violence.
If you have been physically or sexually assaulted there are services to assist:
Communities Tasmania’s Community-Based Family Violence program (CBFV) funds a range of specialist services to support individuals affected by family violence to establish safety, restore confidence, and achieve their personal recovery goals.
This includes free and confidential counselling and recovery programs focused on supporting people to overcome the effects of family violence and address impacts of trauma. The community-based program does not require police involvement for you to get support.
Specialist community-based services also play an important role in prevention and early intervention of family violence through information, education and training to community members and frontline service providers.
There is a 24-hour response and referral service available for people
experiencing family violence (1800 633 937), however, always call 000 if anyone is in imminent danger.
The CBFV Program is delivered by community-based specialist services which work in various areas of the state.

This includes online resources and printed information packs, email and phone support, one-to-one case worker support and Local Area Coordination for people with disability.

Free and confidential statewide counselling service for any person affected by abuse in an intimate relationship. Service can be in-person or via phone or video call, and people can attend as many sessions as they need.

Free and confidential service providing medium to long-term post-crisis support for women who are or have been in an abusive/violent relationship. Includes practical and therapeutic support for people, and outreach services are available.
RAIN (Relationship Abuse of an Intimate Nature)

Social and practical support for women, men and children who have been subjected to family violence. RAIN provides a service from Anglicare offices in Devonport and Burnie, with outreach support to West Coast, Circular Head and King Island.
Huon Domestic Violence Service

Free and confidential service to anyone affected by family violence in the Huon Valley and surrounding areas. Huon DV works closely with other service providers to ensure the best possible outcome for the person and families requiring support and assistance.
Communities Tasmania’s Sexual Violence Support (SVS) program works with people affected by sexual violence to establish safety, restore confidence, and achieve their personal recovery goals.
This includes free and confidential counselling and recovery programs focused on supporting people to overcome the effects of sexual violence and address impacts of trauma.
There is 24-hour support line access and forensic medical support in collaboration with the Tasmanian Health Service.
The SVS program also delivers community and professional education to improve awareness of, and responses to, sexual violence and its impacts.

Laurel House is a not-for-profit, community-based sexual assault support service operating across the North, North-East and North-West Tasmania, also delivering outreach. Services include a 24/7 support hotline (1800 697 877), free trauma-informed counselling, training and community education.
Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS)

SASS offer trauma-informed counselling and support services to southern Tasmanian survivors of sexual violence. SASS can support family members, carers, friends of survivors and professionals working with people affected by sexual harm. SASS also has services for anyone affected by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, including members of the public and whistle-blowers.
