2022 - Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
The State Service Management Office team sharing their pledges
Another NAIDOC Week has come to a close, but the acknowledgement and celebration of Aboriginal people, culture and achievements continues all year round.
It has been heart-warming to hear many agencies welcomed the opportunity to celebrate this year’s NAIDOC Week Get UP! Stand Up! Show Up! and participate in the Whole of State Service Pledge for Change event, to champion institutional, structural, collaborative and cooperative change.
The Pledge for Change initiative highlighted that many individuals working across the State Service are willing to play an important role in creating meaningful change, moving beyond just acknowledgement and good intentions.
Pledges included, taking ownership of one’s learning, making opportunities to learn more, be willing to learn more, listen to Aboriginal people and accept and make change, speak up when something isn’t right, become a better ally, shape positive change through equitable policy making, be open to considering the impact my own cultural lens has on my thinking and to be prepared to adjust that thinking accordingly, work hard - be brave - walk together, create a safe space for First Nations People to show up as their authentic selves… Many pledges included ‘listening to’ and ‘learning from’ by attending Aboriginal Cultural training and walking alongside Aboriginal people in the healing journey. Unfortunately there are too many pledges to list them all, but this gives a good indication of the time people took to self-reflect and think about what they can do themselves to pledge for change.
The July edition of the TSS Aboriginal Employment Network Newsletter will acknowledge and celebrate agency participation with photos and pledges.
