NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself.

More information on NAIDOC Week can be found on the official website at https://www.naidoc.org.au/.

NAIDOC Week and the Tasmanian State Service

The Tasmanian State Service encourages and supports employees to participate in local NAIDOC Week celebrations each year, and to coordinate celebrations within their own agency. Since 2020, the State Service Management Office (SSMO) has coordinated a whole-of-service event, encouraging visible celebration across the State Service.
