2019 Gathering

About the Gathering 2019

On Wednesday the 27th November at the Sustainable Learning Centre, Elizabeth College, Mount Nelson, Aboriginal Employees and their non-Aboriginal supervisors, managers and colleagues met for the 2019 Gathering. This was the first year that non-Aboriginal employees were invited to share in the occassion.

2019 Focus

The Gathering was seen as an opportunity to be inclusive of non-Aboriginal colleagues, share stories and experiences that enhance deeper relationships and understanding, engage in Aboriginal cultural learning and discovery and promote conversations relating to recognising and valuing cultural differences in our workplaces. Over the course of the day there was a wonderful mixture of sharing, exploring, experiential learning, reflection and conversations.

The Gathering emanated a sense of excitement, deep commitment and motivation to progressing the work of the TSS Aboriginal Employee Network and the Aboriginal Employment Strategy to 2022, and was underpinned by an openness and willingness for collaboration, truth and integrity.

"I came away smelling like wood smoke and reenergised; firmly believing that the key to progress is in valuing Aboriginal employees’ unique knowledge, skills and experiences and their capacity to contribute to the work that needs to be done in Aboriginal employment and other areas."  - Jane Hanna, Director, State Service Management Office.
