The Gaming Control Act 1993 requires that an independent review of the social and economic impact of gambling in Tasmania is conducted every three years. The studies are funded through the Community Support Levy.

The publication has been produced since 1984, and is compiled annually by the Queensland Government Statistician's Office in co-operation with all Australian state and territory governments.
