Sergeant Wilfred John Counsel

Members of the Frank MacDonald Memorial Study Tour 2014 remembered Tasmanian Sergeant Wilfred Counsel when they visited the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France. Sergeant Counsel is one of 10 739 Australian servicemen officially commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.

"He (Sergeant Wilfred Counsel) was killed beside me just before we got into the front line of trenches. Killed instantly,"   N.E Robertson, of 4th Machine Gun Company.

Sergeant Wilfred Counsel was from Branxholm, Tasmania, and served with the 4th Australian Machine Gun Company.  He was killed in action in France at the age of 22 on 11 April 1917.

The Frank MacDonald Memorial Study Tour attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, in France, in 2014.
