Private Herbert Lord

Personal tributes from family members were taken to France by Ogilvie High School teacher, Jan Hunt, when she visited the grave of her relative, Private Herbert Lord, for the Frank MacDonald Memorial Study Tour in 2014.

Herbert Lord was an 18-year-old grocer from Bellerive, Tasmania, who embarked from Hobart on the Berrima with the 40th Battalion on 1 July 1916.  A year later, on 1 July 1917 Private Lord died of wounds received in action.

Private Lord was wounded in action on 16 June 1917.  He died in the 22nd General Hospital in Camiers, in France.

Private Lord's grave is Plot 22, Row M, grave 24A at the Etaples Military Cemetery in France.  He is one of 10,771 Commonwealth burials from World War One in the Etaples Miltiary Cemetery.
