Private Terence Henry James

Like many returned servicemen, Private Terence Henry James did not speak about his time serving in World War Two.  An insight into Private James' military service has resulted from Hollie James, of Sacred Heart College,  in Hobart, researching her great-grandfather for the Frank MacDonald Memorial Study Tour 2022.

During the war, Private James served in New Guinea with the 9th Australian Supply Personnel Company and contended with the demands of jungle warfare.

After the War, Private James served in Japan from 25 May 1946 to 18 November 1947.  In Japan, Private James was sent to Hiroshima for the clean-up efforts after the bombing that killed an estimated 80,000 people and destroyed approximately 60% of the city. Private James lost many mates to radioactive fallout, which later affected his health.  The health

Private James returned from the war and although often in hospital he enjoyed family life, his home, helping with the horses and catching up with servicemen.
