Marist Regional College student Xander Power's pilgrimage honoured the story of brothers Francis (above left), and William Grubb (above centre) from Stanley.
Francis (Frank) Rochford Grubb was born on 27 June 1888, in Stanley, Tasmania. His younger brother, William Edward Kemp Grubb, was born two years later, on 13 November 1890. Their parents were Archibald and Marian Grubb. After moving to Stanley in 1867, they had 11 children; in order of birth, their names were Catherine, Annie, Mary, Florence, Archibald Jr., Eveline, James, Helen, George, Francis and William. The Grubb children all attended Stanley Public School.
Francis Grubb (12th Battalion), a former telegraph operator and a hairdresser, was killed in action on 25 July 1916 and is buried at Pozieres British Cemetery.
Second Lieutenant William Grubb served at Gallipoli before re-enlisting with the 40th Battalion. William was killed while leading his platoon in an attack on 28 March 1918, and is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery.
