The Tasmanian Government is committed to increasing diversity and the representation of women on boards and committees as well as empowering women to take on leadership positions.
The Women’s Leadership Scholarships: Board Diversity Scholarship Program 2021-22 has been developed in partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and is intended to increase governance and leadership skills of Tasmanian women to gain greater understanding of Directors’ duties and responsibilities.
The Scholarship Program is part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to achieving gender equality and aims to support the appointment of Tasmanian women to government, private and not-for-profit boards.
Scholarships are provided to successful applicants to complete a board governance course with the AICD. The scholarships on offer in 2022 were:
The Foundations of Directorship Course (FOD) is designed for new and aspiring directors, senior executives, and managers wanting to gain a foundational knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of boards and directors. Find out more about the FOD course here: Foundations of Directorship AICD
The Company Directors Course (CDC) is tailored for experienced directors wishing to take their performance to the next level, as well as for executives and managers who need to understand governance issues in-depth. Find out more about the CDC here: Company Directors Course AICD
Successful applicants will be able to participate in the relevant AICD course within 12 months of receiving the scholarship. To view the course dates see: Course Calendar
To be considered for a Scholarship, candidates must:
*Tasmanians who identify as female are encouraged to apply
The program is open to applicants from all industries, including Government. Priority may also be given to women in regional and rural areas, women who are emerging leaders, and women in industries where they are traditionally under-represented and in non-traditional fields of employment.
