Don Ryan

Veterans' Reference Group

Don RyanDon Ryan is a former Army Reservist with 10 Field Ambulance and 44 Transport Squadron and has been a member of the Lenah Valley RSL for 43 years.  Don has served on the Lenah Valley RSL committee twice, and currently holds the position of Club Treasurer.

Don was a volunteer when the Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience visited Tasmania in 2017, and more recently a volunteer at the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay in October 2023.

Also in 2023, Don was the RSL Tasmania representative on the Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize trip to Belgium and France and had the honour of also representing and laying a wreath on behalf of RSL Australia at the Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux.

He has been involved for over 20 years with catholic education in Tasmania, having volunteered on a number of school and college boards, undertaking President, Treasurer and other roles.  He is a Commissioner on the Catholic Education Commission Tasmania.  In 2021 he was awarded the Guilford Young Medal in recognition of his contribution to catholic education in Tasmania.

Don holds a Diploma of Financial Planning, and a Diploma of Business, and was previously a bank employee and manager for 37 years.  He is currently working part time as an Executive Officer for a parent organisation. He has recently become a grandfather for the first time.

Don has represented Tasmania in Dragon Boat racing and enjoys being as active as possible through a number of sports, walking and fishing.
