Overview

The Tasmanian Government, as part of its 2021 election commitments, allocated $70,000 to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer Asexual + (LGBTIQA+) Grants Program (the Program).

Grants provided through the Program will assist community organisations, tertiary institutions and Local Government to:

  • increase the number of Tasmanians who are accepting of diversity;
  • improve resilience and capacity in the LGBTIQA+ community;
  • foster inclusion, respect and dignity for LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians; and
  • enhance access to services and increase participation for LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians.

For 2024, $60,000 of funding will be administered through the Department of Premier and Cabinet. In recognition of the important work that individuals/communities undertake at grassroots levels, the Government has entered an arrangement with Working it Out to administer the remaining $10,000, through a small community grants program. For more information on this grants program please refer to https://www.workingitout.org.au.

In consultation with the LGBTIQA+ Whole of Government Reference Group, the 2024 government-administered Grants Program has been divided into two areas:

  • priority project/s (category 1); and
  • general project/s (category 2).

Eligible applicants may apply for either or both the priority stream and general stream, and for funding between $1,000 to $30,000 in each area.
