Veterans' Retreat Project

A timber shack in bush setting

Status: Closed

Grant Round closed 5pm Monday 10 February 2020.

The Veterans' Retreat Project is for not-for-profit organisations to develop a retreat for veterans and their families and friends, by renovating a former Parks and Wildlife Service shack at Dago Point, Lake Sorell, in Tasmania’s highlands and developing plans for its ongoing management.

The successful applicant will receive $100,000 to assist with the renovation of the shack. If successful, the applicant will be required to:

  • enter into a grant deed, on terms satisfactory to the Department of Communities Tasmania, governing the applicant’s receipt and expenditure of the funding for the renovation; and
  • accept an assignment of, and comply with all terms and conditions of, a lease, including obtaining relevant Council and Ministerial approvals for building works on the site. This process will be subject to approval from the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE).

Applicant organisations are encouraged to work in partnership and refer to the eligibility and assessment criteria in the Applicant Guidelines.

All applicants must visit the site prior to submitting their proposal. Further details on how to register to visit the site are available in the Applicant Guidelines.
