The Executive Council consists of the Premier and Ministers of Government and is presided over by the Governor whose role is to monitor the legality and procedural regularity of government.
The Executive Council Secretariat provides an advisory service to departments and ensures that all documentation to be presented at Executive Council meetings is in order and provides briefings to the Governor before Executive Council meetings.
In addition, the Secretariat is responsible for a range of constitutional processes including proroguing and recalling Parliament and the of swearing-in of Ministers of Government.
An Executive Council Explanatory Note is required to advise Cabinet about matters which require Executive Council approval but have not previously been considered by Cabinet.
