State Protocol Office
The Protocol team provides advice and services to DPAC, the Tasmanian Government and the broader Tasmanian community, including:
- Diplomatic and Official passports
- Congratulatory letters (significant birthdays and wedding anniversaries)
- Flag requests, advice and library loans
- Order of precedence
- Managing official events delivered by the Tasmanian Government
- Managing Veterans’ Affairs within Tasmania
Protocol
The Protocol team is responsible for State Funerals, the Tasmanian Government Long Service Recognition Program, and Official Diplomatic and Consular visits. We manage visits by Royalty and/or Heads of State and other visiting dignitaries. We also administer the State’s representation on the Council for the Order of Australia and the Australian Bravery Decorations Council. We maintain the official Gifts Register for Ministers in accordance with the Receipt and Giving of Gifts Policy. We also maintain a whole-of-government international travel register in accordance with our International Travel Policy .
Events
The Events team within Protocol manage and deliver events such as the Tasmanian Australian of the Year Awards and associated events with the Australia Day Program. As the Tasmanian representatives for the National Australia Day Council, the team coordinates the nominations and voting processes for the state’s Australian of the Year Awards. The team manage events and projects of significance from start to finish. This includes coordinating the Tasmanian Government Exhibit at various agricultural shows.
Veterans’ Affairs
The Tasmanian Veterans’ Affairs portfolio is also managed within the Protocol team. The Veterans’ Affairs team plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for veterans in Tasmania, delivering a range of initiatives and support programs designed to enhance the wellbeing of the veteran community. Key programs coordinated by the team include the Teddy Sheean VC Memorial Grants Program, the Frank MacDonald Memorial Prize, the Veteran Wellbeing Voucher Program and the State Government Reception for Serving Personnel and the Veterans’ Employment Strategy 2023-27. These initiatives not only honour the legacy of Tasmanian veterans but also foster community recognition and engagement with their service and sacrifice. The team provides strategic support to the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, informing decision making on policy issues and ensuring the effective delivery of significant initiatives.
