Complaints and Investigations

Councils are responsible for a wide range of activities. They make significant decisions that affect their communities.

To help you understand your council’s responsibilities, you can find out more about what councils do, how councils work and the roles and responsibilities of councillors and council staff.

Complaints

There are different types of complaints that can be made about councils, councillors (including mayors and deputy mayors) and council employees. Many complaints can be easily resolved.

Complaints are made to different organisations depending on the issue.

Investigations

The Director of Local Government is responsible for administering the Local Government Act, 1993 (the Act), including formal investigations of non-compliance or offences under the Act.
