Premier's Local Government Council and Minister’s Local Government Forum

The Premier's Local Government Council (PLGC) and Minister’s Local Government Forum (MLGF) are forums for the Tasmanian Government and local government to discuss important and topical issues of statewide significance. The shared objective of these forums is to facilitate strong collaboration between the two spheres of Government on shared policy and reform matters, recognising both spheres have a critical role in supporting the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of Tasmanian communities.

The PLGC was established in 2000, while the MLGF was established in March 2026

Membership

The PLGC is made up of the following members:

  • Premier of Tasmania (Chair)
  • Minister for Local Government
  • Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT)
  • General Management Committee (GMC) members

The PLGC is supported by an Officials Committee made up of senior staff members from the Tasmanian Government, LGAT and three councils.

The MLGF is made up of the following members:

  • Minister for Local Government (Chair)
  • Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) General Management Committee (GMC) members
  • Chief Executive Officer of LGAT
  • Deputy Secretary overseeing the Office of Local Government
  • The Director of Local Government

Protocol Agreement for the PLGC and MLGF

The PLGC and MLGF follow a protocol agreement which sets out the principles of the PLGC, terms of reference, processes and rules for consultation. The Protocol is reviewed regularly. The latest Protocol Agreement was executed in March 2026
