Richard Eccleston

Professor Richard Eccleston is a political scientist recognised as an international authority on tax policy and the politics of tax reform although works with others on a wide range of policy issues.

Professor Eccleston has led the University of Tasmania’s policy engagement in recent years as the founding Director of the Institute for Social Change and, since 2020, as the founding Director of the Tasmanian Policy Exchange. He has led projects on a wide range of social and economic policy issues, is a Fulbright Senior Scholar and was the Chair of the University of Tasmania’s recent review of voluntary assisted dying legislation in Tasmania. He works closely with governments of all political persuasions and is a respected political commentator.
