Local Government Act 1993

The Local Government Act 1993 (the Act) is the principle legislation that provides the legal framework for the establishment and operation of Tasmanian councils.

The Act sets out the purpose and functions of councils and councillors and, together with supporting regulations, contains the rules that must be followed when undertaking those functions.
