Commission for Children and Young People Bill 2024
In response to the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings, the Tasmanian Government is establishing a Commission for Children and Young People to act as a strong advocate for children’s rights and monitor child-safe practices in organisations.
The Commission will be a key component of Tasmania’s strengthened oversight system to improve the safety of children and young people.
The draft Commission for Children and Young People Bill 2024 (the draft Bill) establishes the Commission for Children and Young People and new statutory roles, functions and powers.
The Government is now seeking input from the community on the draft Bill. More information on the draft Bill and the consultation process can be found on the Department of Justice website.
