Launch of Tasmania’s first ever Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy for 0-25 year olds

Tasmania’s first ever Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy for 0-25 year olds, It Takes a Tasmanian Village, was released on 22 August by Premier Peter Gutwein.

Through the Strategy, over $100 million across four years will fund 65 initiatives that support the wellbeing of 0 to 25 year olds, with a particular focus on the first 1,000 days (pregnancy to age two), where there is clear evidence that a good start in life is vitally important to a child’s future wellbeing.

The Strategy builds on many existing government initiatives that support parents, families and communities, and provides new investments and a clear plan for government and its partners to deliver the services and supports that children, young people and their families need for good wellbeing.

At the launch, the Premier thanked everyone involved in the Strategy’s development,

“This Strategy has been developed for children and young people, by children and young people, and those who care about their future through an extensive consultation process that received over 3,500 responses. Thank you to all the children and young people who took the time to write directly to me, along with older Tasmanians and organisations who contributed ideas, experiences and knowledge to this important body of work – we could not have developed this Strategy without you.”

The feedback from children and young people has provided the inspiration for the title of the Strategy, the overarching vision ‘Children and young people in Tasmania have what they need to grow and thrive’, and a set of 10 principles that will guide the Strategy’s implementation.

By working together to deliver this Strategy we can have a real and ongoing positive impact on the lives of young Tasmanians.
