I do not wish to make a long submission, but I would like to say that SMHS were ill prepared for the COVID 19 outbreak. Correspondence from management to the workforce was at best confusing.

The information used was taken directly from THS NWRH, as SMHS do not have any representation in TIPCU (no CNC, CNE or Dr for IPC in SMHS), therefore there was no consideration of the differences working with people with mental health or advice how to deal with the difficulties the workforce faced during the pandemic.

The main concern is that SMHS still do not have anyone working in IPC despite many requests through management meetings, so the next outbreak will see a repeat of the chaotic email with no IPC expert guiding the workforce.

THS NW increased their IPC team from one CNC for NWRH and one for Primary Health to; A consultant, 3 hospital CNC’s 2 CNE’s and one CNC in Primary Health.  SMHS have none.

I hope this can be rectified for all our sakes.
