Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to share with you the Tasmanian State Service Annual Report 2025-26 which was tabled in parliament today.
This year’s report highlights the significant progress made to modernise and strengthen the employment and workforce management policies, systems and practices that underpin our State Service.
As in previous years, the report also provides a comprehensive data profile, including the size and composition of the State Service at 30 June 2026 and employee movements throughout the reporting period, alongside practical examples of initiatives undertaken across agencies.
Key highlights from 2025-26 include:
- continuing the implementation of reforms arising from the Commission of Inquiry and Woolcott Review to strengthen leadership, accountability, workforce governance and child-safe practices
- finalising significant wage agreements across much of the State Service and modernising employment conditions to better support employee wellbeing, inclusion and workforce participation
- advancing PeopleCentral and strategic workforce planning initiatives to support more consistent, informed and effective workforce management
- launching the redeveloped TSS Careers website and progressing initiatives to attract talent and strengthen employment and career pathways
- investing in workforce capability, leadership development and inclusive employment practices, including achieving accreditation of the State Service as a carer-friendly employer.
The past year has involved significant reform and change across the State Service. Throughout this period, we have continued to deliver essential services to the Tasmanian community while contributing to the implementation of important reforms.
I thank all of you for your professionalism, commitment and dedication. The achievements outlined in this year’s report reflect our collective effort and the important work undertaken every day in service of the Tasmanian community.
The report is available now on the Department of Premier and Cabinet website.
Kind regards
