Consultation has opened on possible changes to the Anzac Day Observance Act 1929.
As one of Tasmania's most important commemorative occasions, the Act's purpose is to "provide for the fitting observance of Anzac Day". It does this by restricting certain activities and events so people are free to commemorate Anzac Day and attend services.
The review provides an opportunity to consider whether the current legislation could better describe the activities and events that are restricted and exemptions that apply while preserving the significance and dignity of Anzac Day.
We've written a discussion paper that outlines key issues and questions for your consideration. We encourage you to read the discussion paper and submit your views.

Consultation closes at 2 pm on Monday 7 December 2026.
