The Australian of the Year Awards celebrate extraordinary Australians who enrich our lives, communities and nation in meaningful ways.
The awards have given a platform to some incredible Tasmanians, including the most recent Tasmanian Australian of the Year Dr Jorian Kippax, and previous Tasmanian (and national) 2021 Australian of the Year, Grace Tame.
By putting someone forward, your nomination shines a spotlight on someone’s work, elevates their cause, and celebrates the positive change they create.
The Department of Premier and Cabinet delivers the Australian of the Year Awards for Tasmania, and we would love to see an array of nominations from a variety of local government areas, community groups and backgrounds in this year’s intake.
Now is the time to nominate any Australian who inspires you in one of four categories:
- Australian of the Year: The Australian of the Year Award celebrates the achievements and contributions of outstanding Australians who are role models for us all.
- Senior Australian of the Year: The Senior Australian of the Year Award recognises those Australians aged 65 and over who continue to achieve and leave a lifelong impact.
- Young Australian of the Year: The Young Australian of the Year Award celebrates inspiring 16 to 30 year olds who have accomplished great things in all walks of life.
- Local Hero: Australia’s Local Heroes are those working hard in their own community and making a real impact.
All it takes is one nomination to recognise someone in the Australian of the Year Awards.
Do not be daunted by the task of nominating your role model or inspiring colleague, community champion, friend or family member. The best nominations are those that tell a story. They are not always the best written or have a long list of attachments or referees, but they capture the characteristics of an extraordinary Australian making a difference.
