Hello everyone
I write to update you about the progress of State Service wage negotiations.
Before the Easter break I informed you that unions were in the process of taking offers for a number of agreements to their members.
Many union ballot processes have now closed and I have received confirmation from unions that they are supportive of the offers provided for the following:
Union member voting for the Teachers Agreement (three years) and State Growth Engineers Industrial Agreement (three years) is currently open and results will be known later this month.
Union members rejected the proposed offer for the Ambulance Tasmania Industrial Agreement. While this is very disappointing, we will continue our good faith negotiations with the union and I will update you as this progresses.
Next steps
The confirmation of support for the agreements means for those who had an anticipated salary increase from the first full pay period on or after (ffppooa) 1 December 2025, the 3% salary increase will be backpaid. The structural adjustment to salary (if applicable to you) will also be backpaid from this date.
We will now finalise the drafting of clauses with unions to ensure the improvements to the conditions in each agreement, as well as the strengthening and modernising of the State Service standard conditions, are appropriately captured as agreed.
Once the drafting of agreements is finalised with unions, the agreements will be lodged with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. Following the hearing where they will be approved by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission, they are registered and the new agreements will take effect. The salary increases and backpays can then be scheduled in pay runs across agencies.
I have asked for everyone involved in this drafting and registration process to work as positively and quickly as they can so that pay increases can be processed and through to everyone due.
I will keep you updated on timing as well as the progress of the remaining agreements across the State Service in future messages. Your Head of Agency will continue to keep you informed on agency-specific details. The Tasmanian State Service negotiations website will continue to be updated.
Again, I thank all unions and their employee representatives for their constructive engagement to work towards agreements that are fair, reasonable and affordable and deliver positive improvements for all employees and our workplaces.
Kind regards
Kath
