JULY 2018

Welcome to the July 2018 edition of the Tasmanian Climate Change Office’s Newsletter. We’re always interested to hear about your climate change adaptation or emissions reduction projects, events and ideas, so please feel free to send us an email with the details for us to include in future editions or share on Facebook.

Smarter Fleets


The Tasmanian Government's Smarter Fleets Program has been running since 2015. The Program is designed to help reduce vehicle fleet greenhouse gas emissions and fuel costs, by providing tailored guidance and support.

We are launching two new Smarter Fleets programs in 2018:
  • Smarter Fleets - Heavy Vehicles - to improve heavy vehicle fleet efficiency by reducing transport emissions and fuel costs; and
  • Smarter Fleets - Electric Vehicles in Local Government - to assist councils to prepare for electric vehicles in their fleets.

Introductory workshops

TCCO is holding free introductory workshops for these two programs.
  • Smarter Fleets - Heavy Vehicles
    • Tuesday 24 July, 12.30 - 2.30pm, The Sebel, Launceston
  • Smarter Fleets - Electric Vehicles in Local Government
    • Tuesday 31 July, 1.00 - 4.00pm, Windsor Community Precinct, Riverside
    • Thursday 2 August, 1.00 - 4.00pm, Sustainable Living Tasmania, Hobart

ChargeSmart grants 


Electric vehicle chargingWe had an overwhelming response to the ChargeSmart grants program, which closed on 21 May 2018. This program provides grants of up to $5,000 for workplaces to install electric vehicle charging stations.

Thank you to everyone who made a submission. The successful grant applicants are from the North, North-West and South of the State, in local and state government, education and private business. Read the full list of successful applicants on the TCCO website.
 

Water Information Tasmania Web Portal

Access to the latest water readings across Tasmania is now available online. The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE), in partnership with Hydro Tasmania and Tasmanian Irrigation, have launched the Water Information Tasmania Web Portal.

The Portal provides data from active and closed surface water and groundwater monitoring locations, with readings for approximately 6,000 data sets. It also provides information from sites that are now closed, or data from discrete historical projects.

The Portal includes instructions to get you started viewing maps, charts and tables. Visit the Web Portal.

Australian Clean Energy Summit 2018

This event, hosted by the Clean Energy Council, aims to help lead Australia's energy transformation.

An afternoon with the Centre for Air pollution, energy & health Research (CAR)

Other news

CSIRO Energise app

You can contribute to national energy research by using the new CSIRO Energise app. Through citizen science, the app aims to map contemporary energy use to guide research and decisions about Australia's energy future. The app will help plan for peak demand to avoid blackouts and help households to reduce their energy use. Visit the CSIRO website for more information.
 

Results for seventh Emissions Reduction Fund auction

The latest Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) auction was run on 6-7 June 2018. Across Australia, 32 carbon abatement contracts were awarded to 32 projects worth $90 million. The Tasmanian Montdown Tree Farms Plantation Project was successful in the June auction. Read more about the latest auction results at the Emissions Reduction Fund website.
