State servants recognised in Australia Day Honours List
Hello everyone,
Last week, 30 Tasmanians were recognised for their individual expertise and excellence across a broad range of sectors in the 2025 Australia Day Honours List.
Among these outstanding Tasmanians were 13 of our colleagues from across the State Service, and it is my great honour to congratulate them and further highlight their exceptional achievements.
Warwick Brennan PSM was awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to public sector communications. Warwick has had a long career in public service communications and specialises in communicating emergency management responses.
Ingrid Ganley PSM was awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service in improving the lives of people with disability in Tasmania. Ingrid has been with the State Service for more than 35 years, and through this time has been a driving force for community and disability services in Tasmania. Ingrid’s tireless work has improved the lives of many Tasmanians.
Catherine Mc Donald PSM was awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to the Tasmanian community, particularly those who are vulnerable and in financial distress or facing hardship. Catherine always undertook her role with a high level of care and respect, making her a very worthy recipient indeed.
Simon Roberts PSM was awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to policy development and implementation in security and emergency management. Simon’s extensive leadership and experience were invaluable during the COVID-19 response.
Inspector Brenda Orr APM was awarded an Australian Police Medal for her distinguished service as a member of an Australian police force. Inspector Orr is well regarded by her colleagues and has always looked for opportunities for improvement in the workplaces she has led.
Inspector Matthew Richman APM was awarded an Australian Police Medal for his distinguished service as a member of an Australian police force. Inspector Richman is highly respected by officers at all levels and is known for his genuine care for members, consistently seeking positive outcomes for their wellbeing.
Kathryn Gillham AFSM was awarded an Australian Fire Service Medal for her distinguished service as a member of an Australian fire service. Kathryn is highly regarded for her exceptional leadership and operational proficiency, playing an integral role in supporting junior and cadet firefighters and also in the development of TFS firefighters more broadly.
Adam Jones AFSM was awarded an Australian Fire Service Medal for his distinguished service as a member of an Australian fire service. Adam joined the Jericho Fire Brigade in 2003 and throughout this time has shown an extraordinary commitment to serving the Tasmanian community, exceeding expectations as a volunteer.
Andrew Skelly AFSM was awarded an Australian Fire Service Medal for his distinguished service as a member of an Australian fire service. Since starting his career as a volunteer firefighter in 1982. Mr Skelly has worked his way through the ranks to become a highly regarded senior station officer within TFS. Andrew has mentored and assessed firefighters and officers at all ranks of the organisation and has shown exceptional leadership.
Bianca Callinan ESM was awarded an Emergency Services Medal for her distinguished service as a member of an Australian emergency service. Bianca has dedicated her career to working across the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery phases of emergency management across the Tasmanian emergency services sector. Bianca has made a significant contribution to emergency management in Tasmania.
Paul Le Fevre ESM was awarded an Emergency Services Medal for his distinguished service as a member of an Australian emergency service. Throughout his near 26 years of service as a volunteer, Paul has demonstrated a high level of commitment and leadership. His commitment to train new members so they can perform their duties to the highest level has been outstanding.
Curtis Salter ESM was awarded an Emergency Services Medal for his distinguished service as a member of an Australian emergency service. Curtis is known for his passion for and dedication to protecting the community, all the while building up those around him.
Alison McIntyre ACM was awarded an Australian Corrections Medal for her distinguished service as a member of an Australian correctional service. Alison emphasised the importance of respectful relationships with prisoners and ensuring the dignity of incarcerated persons. Her trauma-informed practice significantly reduced the impact of suicide and self-harm for prisoners and staff.
