Women
Equal means equal
Gender equality is a shared responsibility. The Tasmanian Government is leading efforts to improve outcomes for women across safety, health and wellbeing, economic security, and leadership and participation.
Equal means Equal: Tasmanian Women’s Strategy 2022–2027 is the Tasmanian Government’s five‑year plan to guide its work on gender equality. It sets out the government’s overall direction for improving outcomes for women and girls and provides a framework for how gender equality will be strengthened across the state.
Equal means Equal continues the Tasmanian Government’s long‑term commitment to gender equality and builds on earlier strategies, including the Tasmanian Women’s Strategy 2018–2021 (PDF 1.6MB).

Gender Budget Statement
The Tasmanian Gender Budget Statement shows how the state Budget impacts women, men and gender-diverse people differently. It highlights where gender gaps exist and how government spending can improve fairness, access and outcomes for all Tasmanians.
From 2025-26, the statements are prepared by the Department of Treasury and Finance. However, because the 2025-26 Budget was delayed, a Gender Budget Statement was not produced for that period.
Gender Impact Assessment Toolkit
The Gender Impact Assessment Toolkit is for anyone working on a policy, program, service or project. This includes everything from major statewide strategies to local projects.
You can use the toolkit at any stage of your work, from early planning through to delivery and even after a project is completed. It helps you think about how different genders might experience your project or policy, and how to create fairer outcomes.
The toolkit provides practical tips and guiding questions to help you understand potential gendered impacts. You do not need to be an expert or know all the answers before you begin. The focus is on learning, reflecting and taking action, so your decisions do not unintentionally reinforce gender inequality.
Using a gender lens from the start supports more inclusive, equitable and effective results.
Respectful Workplaces
Respectful Workplaces is an online course designed for any organisation, large or small, public or private. It supports workplaces to build cultures that are safer, fairer and more inclusive for everyone.
It also helps organisations understand their obligations by offering tools anyone can use, including frontline workers, team leaders, managers, human resources staff, executives, boards and volunteers.
The Respectful Workplaces Blueprint and posters support course, making respectful behaviour simple to understand and put into everyday practice.
Five ways to start applying Respectful Workplaces in your organisation
Here are some simple, practical actions your organisation can take to start using the Respectful Workplaces resources and strengthen everyday respect at work.
- Put up the Respectful Workplaces posters in shared spaces to spark awareness and start everyday conversations about respect.
- Complete the self‑evaluation checklist (pages 21–22 of the Respectful Workplaces Blueprint) to understand your organisation’s current strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Share the simple, everyday actions for a respectful and inclusive workplace (page 23 of the Respectful Workplaces Blueprint) with staff and invite them to reflect on what they already do well and where they could grow.
- Review the real actions from creating pathways for women (page 17 of the Respectful Workplaces Blueprint) and choose one of the four focus areas to begin strengthening pathways for women in your organisation.
- Ask all staff to complete the micro‑learning modules, then come together as a team to discuss key insights and identify practical steps your organisation can take to build a more respectful workplace.
