Dear colleagues,

NAIDOC Week (5–12 July) is one of the most important events for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

This year marks a powerful milestone, 50 years of NAIDOC honouring and elevating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples voices, cultures and resilience. The 2026 National theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, marks an important milestone, honouring the Elders, organisers, artists and communities who have shaped this movement and continue to carry it forward. Today, we reflect on the journey, recognise the progress made through generations of resilience, and look ahead to the future with pride, purpose and continued commitment.

The Aboriginal Employment Strategy team in the State Service Management Office, DPAC is coordinating the Tasmanian State Service (TSS) NAIDOC Week Event for 2026, an ongoing initiative under the TSS Aboriginal Employment Strategy. This year’s live event is a timeline presentation “50 Years! 50 Moments! Of Deadly!” showcasing 50 moments across a 50-year timeline, including some deadly moments under the TSS Aboriginal Employment Strategy to acknowledge and celebrate. This event will be livestreamed on Wednesday 8 July at 10:00am.

Following the livestreamed event, agencies and departments will be invited to participate in Part Two of this year's NAIDOC Week Event, “A Yarn on Country”, which is screenings of our productions from 2024 and 2025.

Visit the DPAC website to find details of the events and how you can participate. This is an opportunity to listen, learn, reflect and contribute to this whole-of-service NAIDOC Week initiative and work together to participate as a team, workplace, agency and State Service.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Kind regards

Kathrine Morgan-Wicks PSM
Head of the State Service
