Hello everyone,

I want to let you know about an important government-led initiative and campaign now live across Tasmania.

The expanded Tell Someone campaign aims to build awareness of the signs of child sexual abuse and empower adults, children and young people to act when something doesn’t feel right. It also sends a clear message to adults who are having harmful thoughts or feelings toward children and young people – reminding them that our community has a zero tolerance for abuse and support is available, seek help now.

It is intentionally direct and its message is clear. People who sexually abuse children rely on secrecy, and speaking up helps keep children safe. It challenges harmful attitudes, raises awareness, and reinforces that the responsibility for prevention and response sits with adults.

The Tell Someone initiative is a long-term, statewide effort to prevent child sexual abuse and build a community where children and young people feel safe, supported and empowered to speak up, and where adults are equipped to listen, believe and act.

The campaign will be delivered across television, radio, social media, gaming, schools, libraries, sporting clubs and other public spaces, reaching Tasmanians where they live, work, and connect.

A refreshed, child-centred website has been designed to be accessible and easy to navigate for children and young people, with tailored information for parents, carers and victim-survivors.

The establishment of a Champion Network of organisations committed to strengthening safe environments for children and young people is under development along with targeted grassroots engagement across Tasmania to support community-led action.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the Tell Someone website that also includes links to support services, recognising that this content may bring up strong feelings for some people.

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility. Initiatives like Tell Someone are an important part of strengthening prevention, supporting early intervention, and reinforcing our shared commitment to listening, believing and acting when concerns are raised.

Thank you for the work you do each day to support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people across Tasmania.

Kind regards,
