Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce that today the Tasmanian Government has released Change for Children, a 10-year strategy designed to uphold the rights of children and young people by preventing, identifying, and responding to child sexual abuse. This critical initiative strengthens our collective efforts to ensure every child in Tasmania grows up safe, healthy, and supported.

More than 450 organisations and individuals, including victim-survivors, their supporters, children and young people, have contributed their knowledge and expertise to shape this strategy. Through regional and online workshops, extended consultation, and a co-design process, we have captured the voices of Tasmanians to drive meaningful and lasting change.

In response to community feedback, the updated strategy extends beyond the Commission of Inquiry recommendations, taking a whole-of-community approach to embedding child-safe cultures and systems. This strategy represents a strong commitment to ensuring that every child and young person in Tasmania is cared for, protected, and supported, creating a safer and brighter future for generations to come.

To support the implementation of this strategy, the government has developed a new Governance and Accountability Framework to enhance coordination, transparency, and accountability. This framework strengthens decision-making processes, enables engagement with the Child Safety Implementation Monitor, and ensures effective delivery of the reforms.

I encourage all staff to familiarise yourselves with Change for Children and consider how your role can contribute to its implementation. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of Tasmania’s children and young people.

Further details will be shared with relevant Agencies. However, I would encourage business units with responsibility for Commission of Inquiry recommendations to reach out to the Keeping Children Safe Team at keepingchildrensafe@dpac.tas.gov.au for more information.

Thank you for your continued commitment to keeping children and young people safe.

Kind regards,
