Consultation on the first Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan closed on 10 March 2026. We are now finalising the plan.

Consultation on the Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan

The Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024 says the government must create a plan that enables people with disability to be more included and supported in Tasmania. This plan will be called the Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan.

The first plan is for four years and is being prepared by 1 July 2026.

The plan will be developed in collaboration with people with disability.

We have consulted with people with disability, their families and carers, disability advocacy and representative organisations; peak bodies, defined entities, disability and community providers, community members and independent statutory authorities including the Tasmanian Disability Commissioner.

What we did during consultation

The consultation was open between 21 November 2025 and 10 March 2026.

During this time we ran webinars and held face to face sessions throughout Tasmania. We also had many conversations with other individuals and groups. We wrote directly to disability and community organisations and told them about the consultation.

We asked people to complete an online survey or a plain English online survey.

We also asked people to make a submission in any way that suited them.

Submissions

We received 60 submissions for the development of the Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan. Four of these were received in confidence and are not published in the following list.

Consultation submissions

Important information to note: Submissions are published on this page where the authors have agreed to them being made public. By publishing submissions, the Tasmanian Government expresses no opinion as to the content or accuracy of any of the submissions or other materials to which the submissions may refer.

The Tasmanian Government may choose not to publish all or part of a submission if it considers it inappropriate to do so. The Government recognises that not all individuals or groups are equally placed to access and understand information. We are therefore committed to ensuring Government information is accessible and easily understood by people with diverse communication needs. However, the Government cannot take responsibility for the accessibility of documents provided by third parties.

More information can be found in the Tasmanian Government Public Submissions Policy.

Supporting materials

We wrote a discussion paper called Towards a Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan. The discussion paper collected what we have heard from you before, told you about what we are already doing and asked questions about what you want to include in a new plan.

Next steps

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback in the consultation.

We will use the feedback provided to prepare the first Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan. We will have this plan prepared by the beginning of July 2026 and will be published as soon as practical once prepared.

We will publish any updates on our progress on this page.
