Kathrine Morgan-Wicks, Head of the State Service, message to all staff

Standing together against family violence (01 May 2026)

Hello everyone,

Today marks the start of Family Violence Prevention Month, which we are recognising across the Tasmanian State Service for the first time. This month is an important reminder of our shared responsibility to help prevent family and sexual violence and to support those affected in our community.

It is widely acknowledged that gender inequality is a key driver of family and sexual violence. As members of the Tasmanian State Service, you each play a meaningful role in promoting and fostering safety, respect and equality - in our workplaces and in the broader community.

Across government, a range of initiatives are underway to strengthen our efforts to prevent and respond to family and sexual violence, and your participation helps reinforce this commitment.

Throughout the month of May, all state servants are encouraged to take part in Family Violence Prevention Month. There are many ways to get involved, including:

  • Listening to the four-part podcast series on the One Health Podcast feed, available on platforms such as Buzzsprout, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
  • Attending DECYP’s webinar with Jesuit Social Services about their Adolescent Man Box Study on 13 May. Click here to register.
  • Participating in activities hosted by organisations across Tasmania’s family violence sector. You can access a calendar of events here on the Tasmanian Family and Sexual Violence Alliance website.
  • Joining conversations in your workplace or online using #FamilyViolencePreventionMonth

I encourage you to use this month as an opportunity to learn more, connect with colleagues, friends and family, and show your support in ways that feel safe and appropriate for you.

Thank you for your continued commitment to building safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces and communities.
