Hello everyone
NAIDOC Week is being held from 6 – 13 July and I want to acknowledge the significance of this week for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The theme of NAIDOC Week 2025 is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," and celebrates the achievements of the past and the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young Aboriginal leaders, the vision of communities, and the legacy of Aboriginal our ancestors.
NAIDOC Week is for Aboriginal people and is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about Aboriginal cultures and histories and participate in celebrations. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal community through activities and events held across the country.
Today the Tasmanian Aboriginal community and the wider Tasmanian community will attend a flag raising at piyura kitina/Risdon Cove.
During NAIDOC Week, all Tasmanian State Servants are invited to A Yarn on Country to hear the personal stories of Aboriginal people working in the Tasmanian State Service.
The Aboriginal Employment Strategy team, in the State Service Management Office (SSMO), has developed A Yarn on Country to support the TSS Aboriginal Cultural Respect Training.
Following the livestreaming of A Yarn on Country, agencies will be invited to participate in part two of this year’s NAIDOC event, “The Next Generation”, a Tasmanian State School-based Traineeship Program.
SSMO facilitates the TSS School-based Traineeship Program and invites agencies to look for exciting job opportunities that would be attractive to young Aboriginal people across the TSS.
On Wednesday 9 July 2025 10 am – 11 am, I look forward to you joining the TSS NAIDOC Event 2025 A Yarn on Country. If you cannot join in on 9 July 2025, post-screenings have been arranged.

It is important during NAIDOC Week, and always, that we are aware of, and manage, additional workload placed on Aboriginal employees. NAIDOC Week is an important week for Aboriginal people to come together, share and celebrate with their family and community. It is not the responsibility of Aboriginal employees to produce a NAIDOC Event for their workplace.
I hope you enjoy A Yarn on Country, learning more about the Next Generation and NAIDOC Week.
Happy NAIDOC Week.
Kind regards,
