Hello everyone,
Today’s launch of the Efficiency and Productivity portal marks an important opportunity for State Service employees to contribute ideas that will help strengthen and improve the way we deliver public services for Tasmanians.
This process is about listening to the people who know government service delivery best: our dedicated public servants.
Every time I walk around our workplaces, including for example our major and district hospitals, our correctional facilities, educational workplaces, police, fire and emergency sites or our corporate workplaces – conversations with staff raise suggestions for improvement, often asking the question whether we can change the way we do things or try a different approach which might include new technology or a different mix of staff or extending the ‘scope of practice or duties’ for individual employees. Wasted time, wasted resources or painful multi-approval stepped processes also get raised, and alternatives suggested to improve the services we deliver to the community and make the work we do more rewarding.
The State Service is made up of skilled and committed professionals who work every day to deliver services that make a real difference in people’s lives. You are the experts in your own workplace and are often the fresh eyes when you join new teams or change departments. By drawing on your experience and insight, we can identify practical changes that improve the way we work, support innovation, and ensure the system continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.
The Efficiency and Productivity Agenda (led by the DPAC Efficiency and Productivity Unit, working in partnership with the Department of Treasury and Finance) provides a centrally co-ordinated framework for this improvement, focusing on better collaboration, innovation and long-term sustainability of our public services.
Through this engagement process, we want to hear ideas both big and small that can help us deliver better outcomes for Tasmanians, now and into the future.
Furthermore, if you or your team are already implementing ideas that you believe would be beneficial if applied across the service, we also want to hear from you.
I encourage everyone to take part and share their perspectives through the online survey, which will remain open and available until 28 May 2026 at www.tas.gov.au/epu
Kind regards,
