Dear colleagues,
I write to update you following the Premier and Treasurer’s announcement yesterday on the status of the current wage negotiations with public sector unions. As you may be aware, negotiations began earlier this year to replace 16 industrial agreements that cover most of us as State Service employees.
I wish to inform you that the government has made a first and final wages offer to unions of a one-year agreement that provides for a 3 per cent salary increase, while maintaining all other agreement terms and conditions. This covers most State Service employees, including Police. A full list of agreements and their effective dates for proposed salary increases can be found below.

This offer is open for a period of four weeks, and I have encouraged the unions to favourably consider this offer with their members to ensure our hard-working employees receive a pay rise as soon as possible.
As Head of the State Service, I see firsthand our employees doing a remarkable job serving our fellow Tasmanians. This one-year offer demonstrates support to our workforce whilst respecting the action that is being taken to address Tasmania’s budget challenges.
If the one-year offer is accepted, good faith negotiations will recommence with all public sector unions and the Lead Negotiator to develop longer term agreements.
Whilst respecting our negotiations with our public sector unions, I will keep you updated following the conclusion of the offer period.
Kind regards,
Kath
