Kathrine Morgan-Wicks, Head of the State Service, message to all staff

Cyber Security Awareness Month 2024 (11 Oct 2024)

Dear colleagues

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month. This is an important time to reflect on our online habits.

The theme for the month is: Cyber security is everyone’s business, play your part.

You can play your part by:

  1. Enabling multi-factor authentication. MFA [cyber.gov.au]
  2. Installing software updates whenever available. Update your devices [cyber.gov.au]
  3. Using strong and unique passphrases. Passphrases [cyber.gov.au]
  4. Recognising and reporting phishing. Phishing [cyber.gov.au]

The Tasmanian Government’s Chief Information Officer Justin Thurley has recorded a short video about the importance of practising safe cyber behaviours.

The theme also aligns with our new visual identity for Cyber Safety Tasmania shown below. You will start to see this when we share cyber safety messages throughout the Tasmanian Government.

The Tasmanian Cyber Security team and the cross-agency Cyber Awareness Working Group are running a campaign during Cyber Security Awareness Month for all agencies.

They will be sharing a toolkit and resources to managers so discussions about cyber safety can be held in team meetings.

I encourage you to engage in these opportunities and strengthen our understanding about how to protect ourselves, our workplace, our loved ones and our information.

Kind regards,
