Rob Williams, Acting Head of the State Service, message to all staff

Reminder of Caretaker Conventions (05 Mar 2024)

Dear Colleagues

I would like to thank you for the work that we have been continuing to do during caretaker on behalf of the Tasmanian community. As you all know, it is critical that we act with integrity and in line with the State Service Code of Conduct. One of the foundations of the Code of Conduct is that we act with professionalism and in a manner that preserves the apolitical nature of the State Service.

As we are now in the third week of the Government’s caretaker period, I would like to remind everyone of our obligations detailed in the Caretaker Conventions and Guidelines. Your agencies have participated in briefing sessions and have been engaging regularly with the Department of Premier and Cabinet as we have navigated the application of these guidelines. The conventions can be found here.

The conventions aim to ensure that we preserve the apolitical nature of the Tasmanian State Service.

It is critical that we comply with the conventions and I encourage you to continue to work with the Department of Premier and Cabinet, which is providing whole-of-government support and advice during the caretaker period. Please contact caretaker@dpac.tas.gov.au should you have any questions.

If you are in doubt, please ask us for advice.

Yours sincerley
