About daylight saving

Daylight saving starts at 2 am on the first Sunday in October every year. Put your clocks forward by one hour from 2 am.

Daylight saving ends at 3 am on the first Sunday in April every year. Put your clocks back by one hour from 3 am.

Since April 2008, daylight saving has been synchronised across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and South Australia.

Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving.

Daylight saving in Tasmania means:

  • Longer daylight in the evening.
  • Less daylight in the morning.
  • More time for outdoor activities after work or school.
  • Better use of natural daylight, which may reduce energy use.

Daylight saving legislation

In Tasmania, the period for daylight saving is in the Daylight Saving Regulations 2017, made under the Daylight Saving Act 2007.
