Tasmanian Government Office (Canberra)

Parliament House CanberraThe Tasmanian Government Office (TGO) in Canberra operates on behalf of all State agencies to identify and develop opportunities for Tasmania by:

  • promoting improved awareness and understanding of the Tasmanian Government's interests and priorities in Canberra, including among Australian Government departments, Ministerial offices, industry associations, and diplomatic missions
  • enhancing knowledge across State agencies of Australian Government policy and funding initiatives, particularly those impacting Tasmania
  • identifying Australian Government grant programs and other funding possibilities, and notifying these opportunities to interested Tasmanians. (See the Funding Alert Service offered.)

The TGO undertakes work in five primary areas:

1. Advocacy Program

  • Promoting the Tasmanian Government's interests and priorities to senior Commonwealth officials, ministerial advisers and other key stakeholders in Canberra.

2. Reporting Program

  • Providing timely information to Tasmanian State Agencies on emerging Commonwealth Government policies and initiatives.

3. Communications Program

  • Monitoring Canberra media reporting on national policy developments, Commonwealth-State issues and Tasmanian Government interests.

4. International Issues Program

  • Promoting the Tasmanian Government’s international interests in Canberra.

5. Commonwealth Funding Program

  • Identification of Commonwealth grants programs and other funding opportunities of potential benefit to Tasmania.
