People Matter Survey 2016

The State Service Management Office (SSMO) coordinates the People Matter Survey (the Survey) across all Tasmanian State Service (TSS) agencies and authorities in partnership with the Victoria Public Sector Commission (VPSC).

In 2016, the Survey was open between 10 May and 1 June.

What is the Survey about?

The Survey asks all TSS employees and officers about their work and work environment. The Survey is conducted on a confidential and voluntary basis.

The Survey asks questions about:

  • change management;
  • employee engagement;
  • workplace health, safety and wellbeing;
  • job satisfaction; and
  • team work.

The Survey also provides TSS employees and officers with the opportunity to contribute their views about accountability, values and principles, leadership, as well as how behaviours such as fairness and respect are valued in their workplaces.

This year the Survey includes additional questions about leadership and development, diversity, wellbeing and change management. These areas were identified as whole-of-service workforce management priorities following the 2015 Survey.

Why do we have a survey?

The Survey results inform senior leaders about what it is like to work in the State Service, which helps them to improve workforce management at the whole-of-service and agency levels. The results also support agency and whole-of-service planning and reporting activities, including informing the reporting required under the State Service Act 2000.

Are answers submitted confidentially?

Yes. The Survey does not seek to collect the personal information of any individual, and is conducted on an anonymous and confidential basis.

In addition, the Survey is delivered with the Victorian Public Sector Commission and Orima Research, who are responsible for collecting and processing survey responses on our behalf.

How do I find out about the Survey results?

Survey reports will be provided to each Head of Agency and Head of Authority and they will determine how their results are distributed to their employees. Agencies have received their 2016 results.

The latest whole-of-service results are available via this link

Previous State Service Surveys were undertaken by SSMO and the Office of the State Service Commission. Reports for these can be found at:
