Requirement to use the Check in TAS app at government premises (30 Jun 2021)

Dear colleagues,

From 1 July 2021 all State Service employees, officers, volunteers, contractors and visitors will ‘check in’ using the Check in TAS App when they enter the building of a Tasmanian Government agency.

QR codes for each premises will be displayed in prominent locations at all entry points. Employees only need to check-in once per day for each government building entered. Full details of the policy and resources are available on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.

We are implementing this new policy because it will assist our Public Health colleagues to rapidly contact trace in response to a COVID-19 case. Public Health needs fast and reliable information so they can identify close contacts and help contain the spread of the disease.

Any minor inconvenience caused by using the App is far outweighed by the potential benefit to the safety of Tasmanians. Having a strong Public Health contact tracing app like Check in TAS gives them this high-quality data. If you haven’t already, please download the free app from your app store of choice as a matter of priority.

I want the State Service to lead the way in using the app. We can all be app-using champions to help keep our loved ones and our community safe and open for business if we are to experience an outbreak like the growing number currently facing other states.

If you are unable to check yourself in on your own device, or be checked in by someone with you, each building will have another process in place to check you in. Please follow the instructions specific to each building and speak to your supervisor if you need to raise any issues.

Please join me in embracing this new process. It will only add a few moments to our daily routines, but will make a world of difference if we are to experience an outbreak.

PLEASE NOTE: The use of the Check in TAS app is a Tasmanian Government Policy that may be included in a Public Health Direction in the future. Using Check in TAS is in addition to Workplace Health and Safety obligations and will support workplace COVID Safety Plans. The information provided through the app is only used for contact tracing purposes. Information is kept for 28 days and only disclosed for the management, detection, notification, treatment or prevention of COVID-19 as authorised under the Public Health Act 1997.

Best wishes
