Stronger Communities Taskforce

The Stronger Communities Taskforce advises the Premier on strategies to:

  • strengthen Tasmanian communities
  • increase community connection and social inclusion.

The Taskforce has provided a report outlining the current state and key characteristics of the Tasmanian community.

The State of Our Community Report 2007: Starting the conversation profiles successful community development programs operating in the community, business and government sectors. It also provides qualitative and quantitative data relating to social progress.

The report will inform the work of the Stronger Communities Taskforce in advising on actions for building community capacity, addressing social disadvantage and increasing social inclusion. The Taskforce welcomes feedback on the report.

Taskforce membership

The Taskforce members were appointed in July 2007 for their knowledge and experience in the community sector, business, government and community development.

Each member was appointed in their own right, rather than as a representative of a particular organisation or group, and brings a unique set of skills and networks to the Taskforce.

Members are:

  • Mr Tom O’Meara – Chair
  • Ms Lin Farrington
  • Mr Peter Fish
  • Ms Glynis Flower
  • Professor Gail Hart
  • Mr John Klug
  • Ms Lynn Mason
  • Mr Darren Mathewson
  • Ms Lisa Wardlaw-Kelly
  • Mr Ivan Webb

The Taskforce is supported by a secretariat in the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Social Inclusion Unit.
