Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council

The Tasmanian Veterans' Advisory Council will provide advice and support to the Government, through the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, on issues including:

  • strategies to promote the wellbeing of all ex-service community members
  • providing a forum for the ex-service community to communicate directly with the Government through the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs
  • encouraging cooperation across all veterans’ organisations in Tasmania
  • recognition and commemoration of the service of veterans.

Community Forums to be held in November and December 2009:

Tasmanian service and ex-service men and women and their families have an opportunity to highlight issues and share their views at forums being held by the Tasmanian Veterans’ Advisory Council during November and December.

The public forums are the first initiative of the Council, which was established in August this year to provide advice and support to the Government on issues affecting the serving and ex-service community in Tasmania.

The Council wants to hear from serving and ex-servicemen and women about the issues that affect them in Tasmania. The feedback from people in the community will be used to develop the Council’s work plan for the coming months.

The Council recognises that there are some issues that are the responsibility of the Australian Government through its agencies. Where these issues are raised in forums, the Council will refer them to the appropriate agency for action.

The forums will be held at the following venues and times:

Huonville Ex-servicemen and Women's Club 9 November 2009, 2pm - 4pm
Swansea Town Hall 10 November 2009, 2pm - 4pm
Glenorchy RSL Club 12 November 2009, 1pm - 3pm
