Tasmania Together 2020: What the Government's doingFirst released in 2001, Tasmania Together is the community’s vision for Tasmania’s future. Its 12 goals and 143 benchmarks reflect extensive community, industry and Government consultation undertaken during 2000 and again in 2005. The Tasmania Together Progress Board is the custodian of Tasmania Together. Established in 2001, the Board is an independent statutory authority that reports directly to Parliament. It is made up of nine members from a variety of backgrounds. Responsibility for achieving the goals of Tasmania Together rests with every Tasmanian, through the actions of industry, Government and community. Further information on progress toward our shared goals is provided on the Tasmania Together website managed by the Tasmania Together Progress Board. Measuring progress toward the goals has recently been made even easier, with the launch of www.ttbenchmarks.com.au in July 2008. This valuable new website provides a range of data for each of the goals, together with notes to assist interpretation. The most recent revision, Tasmania Together 2006, represents Tasmania’s goals and aspirations captured in the 2005 review. The Government is strongly committed to contributing to the achievement of these goals, as reflected in its new Priority Benchmarks. Government’s focus in 2008 - new Priority Benchmarks In addition to the significant work already undertaken by the Tasmanian Government to contribute towards the achievement of existing Tasmania Together benchmarks, Government recently identified a new suite of Priority Benchmarks. The new Priority Benchmarks are part of the Government’s response to Tasmania Together 2006. They provide a fresh, focused approach to guide Government’s commitment and contribution across all Tasmania Together 2020 goals, alongside contributions from Tasmania’s industry sectors and community. Priorities include taking action on climate change, lifting literacy and numeracy standards and social inclusion – areas identified during the Tasmania Together consultation process as critical to a healthy future for Tasmania. Contributing to the new benchmarks is a high priority within departments The Tasmania Together Inter Departmental Committee (TTIDC) is the high level Government committee which coordinates a whole-of-government approach to Tasmania Together. The TTIDC helps to implement Tasmania Together 2020’s vision by working collaboratively to ensure the goals are reflected in Agency planning, budgeting and decision-making. |
