Daylight saving in Tasmania

Daylight saving in Tasmania commences at 2 am on the first Sunday in October each year and concludes at 2 am on the first Sunday in April the following year. The period of daylight saving is prescribed by the Daylight Saving Regulations 2008, made under the Daylight Saving Act 2007.

From April 2008, daylight saving has been synchronised across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and South Australia, although South Australia remains half an hour behind throughout the year due to the observance of Australian Central Standard Time.

For the daylight saving periods from 2008-09 to 2012-13, daylight saving start and finish dates for Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and South Australia are as follows:

The West Australian Government held a referendum on 16 May 2009 to decide whether daylight saving would be introduced on a permanent basis following a three-year trial.  The majority of voters rejected the proposal.  As a result, Western Australia will not observe daylight saving and will remain on Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) all year.

Queensland and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving. Queensland remains one hour behind during our daylight saving period. The Northern Territory remains half an hour behind during Australian Eastern Standard Time, and one and a half hours behind during our daylight saving period.
