The State Government and local government currently enjoy a strong, open and productive working relationship. Cooperation at the political and officer levels is normal business. There are good networks, there is good will and there are good outcomes as a result.
In December 2011, the Premier's Local Government Council, a high-level forum for discussions between the State Government and local government, endorsed the State Government's Framework for Collaboration with Local Government . The framework was developed to guide collaboration on high-level strategic issues at the statewide level, through to day-to-day issues at the local level.
As outlined in the framework, collaboration between the State Government and local government is supported by:
Relationship management is the Local Government Division's (LGD) approach to pro-actively assisting councils to deal with issues at the local level.
Relationship management involves representatives from the LGD visiting every council at least twice a year. The purpose of the visits are two-fold:
